There are many cereals’ brands on market in the UK. The one I’m writing about is a cereal made by Mornflake, given the full name, Mornflake Chocolatey Squares.

Brief information about Mornflake Chocolatey Squares Cereal:

Mornflake Chocolatey Squares Cereal is packed in a cardboard box that has a lot cereal squares displayed on it. There is a inner packet sealed inside. The cereal pieces are described as pillows and filled with a hazelnut paste by the makers. The shape is similar to Nestle bite size Shred but a little smaller.

As a standard packaging there are also 2 clues to the nutritional values per 100g and per 30g with 100mls of semi skimmed milk. The fibre per 100g is 6.0g, much lower than 11.9g of Nestle Shredded Wheat. The 30g with 100mls of semi skimmed milk contains 186 calories, 7.6g fats and 12.6g sugar.

The selling point of Mornflake Chocolatey Squares Cereal is ‘Delicious chocolate & hazelnut flavoured cereal pillows fortified with 8 vitamins and iron'. There are no artificial colours, preservatives and flavours. The ingredients are chocolate & hazelnut flavoured paste, nuts, wheat, oats, gluten, soya and milk, sunflower oil. The total cocoa solids is 4.8%. Mornflake Chocolatey Squares is suitable for vegetarians.

Mornflake Chocolatey Squares is made in the UK and can be found at most supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, ASDA, Morrison’s just to name a few. The prices vary little and are around £2. As a guide the current price at Sainsbury’s is £2 for a 500g box.

My opinion:

I bought Mornflake Chocolatey Squares Cereal when it was on promotion at my local Sainsbury’s and was attracted by the picture of the cereal squares. Tasting is believing.

I like Chocolate and hazelnut, so my expectation was high with the cereal. However I could not taste the hazelnut taste. On the package it said the cereal is filled with a hazelnut paste that equal 25% of the product. The filling is soft with a light brown colour that can make you connect with chocolate. In fact I do taste the flavour of chocolate, but I don’t think it’s a high quality chocolate. Also the pillow part looks crunchy but when it meets milk I can’t say it’s crunchy anymore. I must say I feel a bit upset with the cereal.

I also feel the cereal is a bit sweet as it contains a high sugar content. As I can see from the package to the taste I think the cereal seems to be made to appeal to children’s taste. So I would not suggest Mornflake Chocolatey Squares Cereal to anybody.
